As people are slowly bringing the problems of software patenting to the public attention, more and more media coverage is being given to this crucial issue. Here is a log of the most recent articles that I've come across.
Lawrence Lessig, Professor of Law at Standford Law School, has written and article for the Financial Times outlining the problems with the US patent system and why Europe shouldn't jump to import the American problems. (20th February, 2003)
Does innovation require intellectual property rights? (March 2003, first published Sep. 2002)
That's the question asked by this paper, and makes an interesting read. Not specifically about software patents per se, but challenges the assumption that monopoly rights to ideas need to be granted for innovation to take place.
Ciaran O'Riorden has written an article on the dangers of software patents for Electronics Weekly magazine. This is a short introduction of the problem to those who may not necessarily be in the software field. (22nd May, 2003)
